Aka: The Spirit Dog, Rat-Rat, The Rat, Speerat, Surfer (as in counter) Girl and the favorite: Fugly! (yes, she answers to this!)

I adopted Spirit from the Humane Society of Greater Dayton on October 4, 2000, after losing my Snickers 2 days earlier. I think she is a Keeshond/Australian Shepherd mix, but that's just a guess! Her estimated birthdate is April 1, 2000.

She earned her Canine Good Citizen on August 4, 2001 on her first try to my amazement.

She loves romping through the woods and splashing in creeks! However, she only likes to wade in not swim around, she's a bit prissy as far as getting dirty is concerned. She is an ambassador for mixed breed dogs as she is so friendly with everyone she meets. She likes to lean into you so that you can pet her better!

She is a great friend and traveling companion, she's been all over! We regularly travel from Ohio to Virginia to visit family, yet she has also driven with me to dog shows and conferences. A favorite place of hers is PetsMart since she knows where they keep the treats and can just help herself! The employees there get a kick out of her doing this!

She has also gone with me to Petland/pet store protests where she shows how great a shelter pet can be. She even has an anti-puppy mill bandanna that she gets to wear on these occasions.

I hope we have many more happy years together. She is much more than just a dog - she is my best furfriend. She means so much to me I don't know what I'd do without her in my life. She IS a once in a lifetime kind of dog and I am so lucky to be able to live with her.

You know she likes you if she smiles at you by showing her teeth. If she really loves you she will "attack" you until you pet her! I think Spirit is my heart dog, the one I am spiritually connected with. I have always felt that she is very special.

The Spirit Dog says, "My mom loves me so much, she had me spayed. If you love your dog, you'll do the same!"

Wearing her Magickal Cape. Halloween 2002. (not the most creative costume, but I had short notice!)

Striving to be a K9 Officer. This is my brother's old police cruiser, he has a nice new one now. I don't think he'll make her his K9 partner though!

Driving in my cars. Year 2003. Spirit looks forward to every car ride!

Birthday Party! Age 2 years. October 2002. I had her birthday party at work and invited a few of her doggie friends, she had a great time and loved her cake!

Meeting her "twin" at the 2002 National Animal Rights Conference. I forgot the other dog's name, but they looked pretty similar.

At the Xenia Dog Park. Summer of 2002. Spirit always took over the picnic table there, she liked to sit up there away from the other dogs and get petted.

On my bed. She loves to hang out there.

Assorted outside pics. She is so photogenic and always looks so pretty!

Homemade Portraits. Not too bad if I say so myself.

Snow Pictures! Spirit loves the snow, she loves to roll in it and eat it too!

Sometimes I think that Spirit is a real breed of dog, one that I call the Spirit Dog. It seems I'm always seeing dogs that look like her or am being told by people that they once had a dog that looked just like her. I haven't a clue as to what breeds are in her, but she is a very pretty girl. Perhaps one day I will rescue Spirit Dogs from shelters once I am able to do so. I do know that this Spirit Dog is not creating any more Spirit Dogs because she's spayed!
