Mysticwinds Kara Bear
Kara!
Aka: The Kara Bear, Kara-Kara, The Care Bear, Kara-Beara
Kara is a Keeshond (pronouced Kayz-hawnd, = NOT Keesh-hound). She was born on September 17, 2001. She was born and bred in horrid conditions not unlike a puppy mill. However, her breeder only bred this breed and she bred them to make money. Dogs that are bred for profit are not sound, well tempered pets. Breeders should breed toimprove their breed and when they do they actually lose money.
Kara has lovely fur that is double coated and double the work to maintain. I adopted her from the Shelby County Animal Rescue League at the age of 6 months in March, 2002. She was originally purchased by her former owner for breeding purposes and ended up being turned into rescue when she became too much for her to handle - she barked alot.
She is now happily spayed so she doesn't create more puppies to add to the overpopulation crisis. Kara is a joyous dog, she loves to meet new people and especially enjoys swimming which I have learned is very unusual for a Keeshond. Although they were barge dogs in their native land of the Netherlands they are not usually fond of water.
Kara does this cute little dance (and of course, she barks at me) when I get her leash out because she loves going for rides in the car. She's driven with me to Virginia before and that's a 7 hour drive, but she didn't mind.
Kara says, "I'm so happy that my new mom had me spayed as I really didn't want to have puppies. I see my mom get sad after yet another litter of unwanted and unplanned puppies is dumped at her work and I'm glad that I'm not the cause of that. I'm healthier and happier and I will live longer than an unspayed female so that will give me more time with my mom."
Kara is a great dog and just so comical! She does love to re-landscape the backyard with her digging. Sometimes she'll try to dig into my skin when she wants attention and that can really hurt!
I found out that Kara is a true "snow dog"! She absolutely loves it! She'll dig in it, roll in it, eat it and just basically try to burrow into it. I have to coax her to come inside at times because she just wants to stay out in the snow.

Kara after a clipping!
(I only clip her down in the summer because she enjoys swimming so much and this way it's much easier to let her swim more often)
Who says Keeshonden don't like water?! - June 2004
Kara LOVES the water and now she has her own pool to romp around in - she's so happy about that!

Meeting Toby - November 2004
(This is Toby, he is about 8 mos older than Kara and he belongs to Kara's former owner. She released him to me, but quickly reclaimed him so he only spent one night with my Fuzzybutts. He is the one Kara would have been mated with - luckily I spayed her and he has been neutered so no puppy making for either of them. I do think she remembered him or maybe she just recognized him as being another Keesie Kid - she sure did like him though!)

Kara's spay/neuter vest!
This is Kara's vest. It is similar to Spirit's just a different color and I picked different slogans too. She seems to like it already and gets excited when I pull it out as she does when I get her leash out. She just wants to get out there are start educating people about spay/neuter!
